LimePhone: New Regulations for Texting to US Numbers

In a bid to combat fraudulent calls and texts, the major US carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon) along with LimePhone have announced new registration requirements for cloud phone providers. This means that if you want to send text messages from LimePhone to US numbers, you must comply with these new guidelines.

Who is Affected?

These new requirements apply to any business or individual who uses LimePhone to send text messages to US numbers. This includes businesses with an EIN or equivalent tax ID number as well as individuals using LimePhone for personal use.

How to Register?

If you are a business with an EIN or equivalent tax ID number, you can register for LimePhone's Low Volume Standard status through the LimePhone web or desktop app. This requires submitting some basic business information and paying a one-time fee of $19. You will also need to pay a monthly fee of $1.50 to maintain your status.

If you are an individual using LimePhone for personal use, you can register through the LimePhone web or desktop app. This will require submitting your US or Canadian address and working mobile number with a country code of +1. You will also need to pay a one-time fee of $19. You will only be able to send text messages from one of your LimePhone numbers, however.

What Happens if You Don't Register?

If you do not register for LimePhone's Low Volume Standard status by August 31st, you will not be able to send text messages to US numbers. This includes messages sent to your own LimePhone number.

Additional Fees

In addition to the registration fees, there are also messaging fees that apply to all users. These fees are as follows:

  • Businesses with an EIN or equivalent tax ID number: $1.50 per month
  • Individuals using LimePhone for personal use: $2 per month

Fair Use Policy

All LimePhone users are subject to a Fair Use Policy. This policy limits the number of text messages that can be sent from any LimePhone number each day. For businesses with an EIN or equivalent tax ID number, the limit is 6,000 message segments per day, including up to 2,000 segments to T-Mobile numbers. The limit for individuals using LimePhone for personal use is 3,000 message segments per day, including up to 1,000 segments to T-Mobile numbers.
